Get ready to read your way through winter! Our fourth annual winter reading program begins on Saturday, January 26, 2019!
Children and teens will be given a reading chart with various activities they can choose to do, such as “Come to a library program,” or “Read a picture book.” They will be challenged to complete activities from the chart between January 26 and March 2. After twenty completed activities, participants can come to the library to receive their prize: a new book!
Adults can also participate in a winter reading program of their own. They can read books and enter a raffle for a prize!
While summer reading programs are widespread and well attended, winter reading programs have been slower to catch on. However, more libraries are recognizing the importance of keeping kids engaged with books and the library throughout the long winter months. The South Portland Public Library is joining a growing collection of libraries that offer winter reading programs.
The program kick-off on January 26 with a special Slime Lab for kids ages 5 and up! The program begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Library, and is open to all ages.
