iMake, SPPL’s do-it-yourself series for ages 10-18, has a fun line-up of maker activities to keep teen and pre-teen patrons having fun all autumn long. iMake offers a new project every week on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Examples of past projects include duct tape roses, weaving on handmade looms, folded books, printmaking and more!
Fall 2018 Schedule
September 6: Felt rainbow geodes—Make your own unique geode “rocks” using wet felting.
September 13: Air-dry clay craft—Use natural items to emboss clay that can then be formed into bowls, wall hangings, key chains, ornaments or more.
September 20: Paper making—Recycle old scraps into beautiful handmade paper.
September 27: Wire plants—Using wire and nail polish, create unique flowers and leaves to assemble into decorative plants.
October 4: Origami leaves—Learn several ways to fold autumn leaves out of paper.
October 11: Duct tape bracelets—Use duct tape to make snazzy bracelets.
October 18: Needle felting—Use felting needles and colorful wool roving to make 2-D art or small 3-D sculptures.
October 25: NO iMAKE
November 1: Origami wallets—Fold a wallet out of scrap book paper! These make great gifts!
November 8: Accordian books—Make a unique book with a simple binding to use as a scrapbook or journal.
November 15: Fold-a-turkey—Create a turkey table centerpiece out of…a book!
November 22: NO iMAKE- Happy Thanksgiving!!
November 29: Holiday cards—Holiday season is here! Get a jumpstart on handcrafting your Hanukkah, Christmas, Solstice, or New Year cards!
December 6: Naalbinding—Before knitting or crochet, there was naalbinding, an ancient and simple method used to make fabric. Come learn the basics of this “single needle knitting” technique!
