West African Rhythms with Annegret Baier

June 16, 2018 – 10:30 am

SPPL invites you to kick off the 2018 Summer Reading Program with drummer Annegret Baier! Annegret will demonstrate a variety of rhythm instruments rooted in West African music at her special performance at the Main Library on Saturday, June 16 at 10:30 AM. 

In her solo performance, Annegret plays a wide variety of percussion instruments including Djembe, Conga, Kpanlogo, Kalimba, Balaphone and more! Audiences witness a stunning demonstration of her skillful playing and her powerful and uplifiting stage presence are invited to participate in dancing, drumming, singing and hand clapping. All ages will enjoy this interactive and educational presentation!

The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program is “Libraries Rock!” Patrons age birth through adult can sign up starting June 16. We encourage you to rock out with Annegret and sign up for Summer Reading while you are here!

About Annegret

Annegret grew up in Germany and received her classical music training in violin, voice and piano from the University of Music in Stuttgart. She has studied with master drummers from Guinea, Ghana, Cuba and Brazil. She has done several residencies with her primary teacher, Famoudou Konate, in Conakry, Guinea.

She maintains a busy performance schedule throughout Maine and New England, performing solo and with the bands: Inanna, Sisters in Rhythm, and The Zulu Leprechauns. When she is not touring or giving school residencies for all age students, she teaches individual and group drumming classes and gives workshops throughout New England.  To learn more about Annegret, visit her website here.
