Join Eileen Eagan at the Main Library on Tuesday, March 25th at 6:30pm for a lecture on Frances Perkins.
Perkins was the first woman Cabinet member, and was the driving force behind the New Deal of the 1930s. She worked for worker’s rights, social security, and an open door to Jewish and other refugees fleeing Nazism in Europe. With roots in Maine, her family home is now a National Monument in Newcastle, Maine.
Eileen Eagan is retired from USM where she taught in the History Department and in Women and Gender Studies. Her focus was on US Women’s History, US Foreign Policy, and the Twentieth Century US. She was one of the developers of the Portland Women’s History Trail walk, booklet, and the mobile app.
