Do you know about Maine’s Property Tax Stabilization for Senior Citizens?  If not – or if you want to know more about how this new program might help you – the City of South Portland, in partnership with Age Friendly South Portland, will be presenting an informational session on September 21st at 4pm at the Main Library location of the South Portland Public Library.  South Portland’s Assessor, Jim Thomas, will be on hand to present information about this new program, offer guidance on how to apply, and to answer any questions you may have.  The event is free for all.

Put in place by the State of Maine on August 8, 2022, the Property Tax Stabilization for Senior Citizens program allows permanent Maine residents 65 and over, who have owned their home for at least 10 years to stabilize, or essentially freeze, their property taxes at the previous year’s rate.  With an application deadline of December 1st, now is the time to learn about the program and to get the application process going!
