Groove to rhythmic beats at our next After Hours concert, featuring the Maine Marimba Ensemble, on Saturday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m. We guarantee you won’t be able to stop your toes from tapping at this Zimbabwean-style marimba show!
About Maine Marimba Ensemble
Maine Marimba Ensemble is a unique percussion band based in Portland, Maine. They not only play marimbas, but they make them! Marimbas are large wooden xylophone-like instruments, and the ones the band plays are hand-made by band member Jacob Wolff. The ensemble incorporates great rhythms that inspire foot-tapping, hipswaying and energetic dancing.
The Maine Marimba Ensemble is comprised of members Tchukki Andersen, Kevin Caron, Rob Cimitile, Elliot Heeschen, Pete Himmer, Zebulon Kelley, Chris Fletcher, Matt Wasowski, and Jacob Wolff. The way that these folks intertwine each note with the surrounding strikes is truly captivating. The complex polyrhythms blend so well that they become one movement, much like a traditional African experience.
Doors to the show open at 6:30 p.m., so arrive early to make sure you get a seat! For more information, call 767-7660 x 3, and make sure to follow the library on Facebook for updates! You can also learn more about Maine Marimba Ensemble at http://www.mainemarimbaensemble.com.
