The South Portland Public Library has a new monthly genealogy program. The first meetings will be led by genetic genealogist Nancy Milliken Mason. Mason, who was born in Portland and grew up in Cumberland, has been doing traditional genealogy research for over 30 years. For the last 5 years, she has been using DNA to assist that research. Her presentations will cover a variety of topics, including oral histories, online resources, and genetic genealogy.
On April 19, Mason will present “Genetic Genealogy: Using DNA to Assist with Traditional Research.” Mason will lead the presentation, provide a Q & A session, and help the group with their research.
Following the April workshop, the group will continue meeting monthly on the third Wednesday of each month from 1-3 p.m. The Library has a limited number of laptops available to use for research, or participants can bring their own. For more information, call the Circulation Desk at 767-7660 x 2.
